Help is on the Way
"God doesn't want to help me," is the lie I used to believe throughout seemingly STAGNANT seasons of my life. During those seasons, I felt STUCK, unable to find my way out. Sometimes, I felt a cloud of confusion hovering over me, not knowing where to turn to or what to do. Believing God had turned a deaf ear to my prayers, I experienced blockage in my spiritual life. After countless unsuccessful efforts to help myself, and an infinite amount of seemingly unanswered prayers for God to intervene, I developed a sour perspective of my King. I imagined Him as uncaring Father, chillin’ on His throne, watching me suffer. Believing God had no intentions on granting me either a blessing or breakthrough, I began to believe that God was simply UNWILLING to HELP me.
However, along my journey to freedom, I discovered the TRUTH that God is more than willing to help us. I am reminded of the story of the man with leprosy in Luke, Chapter 5 who asked Jesus if He was willing to heal him, and Jesus responded with three words, “I am willing (LUKE 5:13 NIV).” I encourage you to read that passage today.
After reading that passage, those three words stuck to me like glue, and I’ve experienced first-hand, that not only is God willing to grant us the desires of our hearts, but He wants us to receive the abundance of goodness that He has in store for us MORE than we want it for ourselves. In fact, He wants us to receive His blessings so much, that He is willing to come to our aid when we become stuck, and give us a clue, so that we may overcome.
It almost reminds me a game where you can ask for a clue when you catch yourself in a jam. These clues help you make it to the next level so that you can ultimately win. A great example of this type of game is, “Escape the Room,” where you are locked in a room, and must figure out how to get out. When you become stuck, and are unsure of what to do next, you have three opportunities to ask for a clue. A more popular example is, “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” where you have three opportunities, or “lifelines,” as they call them, to receive help when you need it most. However, unlike these games, I found that God is willing to give us an unlimited number of clues, and that He wants us to win so badly in this journey of life, that often times, we won’t even have to ask for the clue. Instead, He’ll gracefully tap us on our shoulder and speak directly to us through the Holy Spirit. At times, He’ll even send someone to help us on our journey.
He has done this for me several times when I was stuck in undesirable season of life. One of my favorite examples of this was when I was working in an unfulfilling position. I relentlessly searched for a new opportunity. Just as I was persistent about searching, I was also persistent about praying for God’s help. However, when the situation didn't change, I began to believe that God had checked out on me, that he had turned a deaf ear to my prayers, that He maybe even had something against me, and that he simply just didn’t want to help me. Yes. I didn’t believe that God favored me, because things didn’t seem to be working in my favor. Right when I was on the verge of giving up, He sent someone to help me.
My former pastor was studying to be a life coach during this season, and one day, she called me out of the blue and asked me if I'd like to be the subject of her homework assignment, making it clear that the Holy Spirit had placed me on her heart. I’m sure she had plenty of options to choose from, but God saw that I needed a clue and, being the sweet and gracious Father that He is, He desired to help me. Now, I thought she was going to help me understand how to get a better job and achieve my career goals, but instead she helped me pinpoint the areas that I needed to work on in my spirit and in my heart. During my time with her, the Holy Spirit ultimately revealed that when we are stuck in the natural, we are more than likely stuck the spiritual. In other words, if we have blockage in our spiritual lives, we more than likely will have blockage in our natural lives. When I am referring to blockage, I am referring to spiritual strongholds. Some examples of strongholds are unforgiveness, jealousy, pride, and having idols before God.
In my case, I discovered that I had unforgiving heart, jealousy and I was not keeping God first. While my pastor was able to give me exercises to help me pinpoint the areas that I needed to work on, there were still questions left unanswered. However, God is faithful. In my quiet time with Him, He was faithful to help me fill in the blanks through the Holy Spirit by telling me exactly who I needed to forgive, and further revealing how to go deeper in my relationship with Him. He also revealed many other truths that I am able to share with you today.
We can’t do anything without God, and if we don’t have it right with Him, we won’t have it right with anything else. The key is to live our lives in alignment and in obedience with the will of Christ. I often thought I was living how God wanted me to live, but the truth is that I was living how I wanted to live. I learned that there are things that He requires of His children, some examples include, being obedient, forgiving others, and loving our neighbor as ourselves, and keeping God first. If any of those things are out of line, He cannot bless us because then He would be going back on His word. In those moments when I thought I had it right, God was faithful to tap me on my shoulder and say, “Beloved, this is where you have it wrong.” Where there was blockage, He sent me a clue to help me remove it. Every time I got off track, or seemed to have lost my way, He was faithful to bring me back to the place that I needed to be in Him, so that I could overcome, and ultimately win.
Once I came into alignment with His will for my life, He was then faithful to bless me beyond measure, as He promises in His word. However, even if He didn’t bless me, the freedom and healing that came from knowing the truth about the God I serve, was much greater than getting a new job!
My brother or sister, God’s love for you runs immensely deep. Psalms 18:19 says that He comes to our aid simply because He delights in us. That's right. God delights in you and He loves you. I challenge you to obtain a fresh perspective of the God that you serve today. He is not standing by watching you suffer. As a matter of fact, I learned that the Master is always at work. You serve a God that is on your team. He is your biggest fan and He is rooting for you to win. He wants you to win so badly, that He will send help to point out your wrongs, and bring you back to the place that you need to be in Him, and ultimately receive all that He has in store for you. That is just how much He wants you to make it. That is how much He wants you to win. He is so faithful, and He is willing, more than willing to make you clean.
I encourage you to get into God's presence today and ask Him where the blockage is in your spiritual life. He will be faithful to answer.
No matter what you are believing God for today, know that He wants to give it to you, and that He wants it for you more than you want it for yourself. If you feel stuck, and seemed to have lost your way, know that HELP from the Master is ON THE WAY!
Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. Phil 1:6
